    Absolution is typically the biggest show on the AIW calendar, so I was a little surprised to see this match, which happened just a little over two months ago, uploaded on YouTube today. Three of indie wrestling’s best and three up-and-coming wrestlers met in a six-man scramble in the evening’s second match, and despite everything that happened at that show, despite a good number of contests that will go down as bests in AIW history, this is one that still sticks. Being a six-man scramble, there’s not really a narrative arc to follow here, but that’s fine. It’s a combination of talent, big moves, and surprise appearances. It’s a taste of what’s to come in AIW. And, since this is my blog and since I’m biased, it’s about that one time I got to announce a match featuring one of my favorite wrestlers.

    Larry Sweeney vs. Eddie Kingston (??/??/07)

    It’s been a year since the tragic passing of “Sweet and Sour” Larry Sweeney. If you’re not familiar with the man’s work—and, to be honest, I wasn’t until a year ago—Sweeney was the best kind of indie wrestler, a dude who was great at all aspects of the craft, able to speak intelligently and wrestle compellingly, a guy who very clearly loved what he was doing. Though he was a career heel, it’s next-to-impossible to not love Sweeney back. His gimmick, if you want to call it that, was brilliant—a throwback to “Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert and other territorial champions who were too cool for their territory and their opponents, who ran huge super-stables in an effort to put as many roadblocks between himself and his opponent as possible.
